Bad Christmas Presents? Pizza Hut Can Help

Disappointed by the presents under the tree? Mope no more, Pizza Hut is now offering “$10 for any pizza” coupon cards to the first 100 people who tweet a photo of their dull gifts to @PizzaHut with the hastag #PizzaHutExchange.

PH

The $10 pizza card is good for a pizza any size, with any toppings and any crust and can be enjoyed in the restaurant, delivered, or picked up.

This isn’t Pizza Hut’s first viral promotion either. In February, right before Valentine’s Day, Pizza Hut announced their Engagement Package. The package costs $10,010 and includes:

-A red ruby ring
-Limo Service
-Flowers
-Fireworks show
-Photographer
-Videographer
-And, of course a $10 Pizza Hut dinner box with a medium one-topping rectangular pan pizza, 5 breadsticks with marinara sauce, and 10 cinnamon sticks with icing.

In October, Pizza Hut offered a lifetime of free pizza to anyone who asked President Barack Obama and presidential candidate Mitt Romney, during the October 16 town hall debate, whether they preferred pepperoni or sausage on their pizza. Thankfully, that did not happen.

Pizza Hut stands as a constant reminder of America’s love for pizza and that Americans will do a lot in the name of love. A lot, a lot.

Happy Birthday 7-Eleven

Today, July 7th marks the 85th anniversary for the convenience store chain 7-Eleven. Participating locations around the country are offering free 7.11 ounce Slurpees from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. To find the nearest location you can use the 7-Eleven store locator, and call ahead to see if they are participating with this promotion.

Today is also the 45th anniversary of the Slurpee at 7-Eleven, and the chain is expecting to distribute seven millions free ones this year, a large increase from the five million it gave out last year. The company began in 1927, started by Joe C. Thompson, an employee of Southland Ice Company. Thompson began selling milk, eggs and bread out of an ice house. He eventually became so successful that he bought the entire company, and became known for keeping his stores open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. By 1952 Thompson had opened 100 stores, and as of 1991 7-Eleven has been run by a Japanese group called Seven & I Holdings Co. with over 46,000 stores in 16 different countries.

7-Eleven discussed in a press release how the Slurpee accidentally came into existence at a drive-in hamburger restaurant. Omar Knedlik, the proprietor of the restaurant struggled to serve his customers fountain beverages after the soda machine broke, and gave them icy-cold bottled soft drinks that he had kept in deep freeze. Customers soon demanded more of these semi-frozen bottled drinks, and the Knedlik came upon the idea of creating soft-serve frozen drinks.

Knedlick went on to approach a company about his idea, and they created a machine using compact Freon refrigeration to freeze a carbonated drink and serve it in a ‘sherbet-like form’. Originally called the “Icee Machine”, a 7-Eleven store manager discovered it and bought three in 1965, and by 1967 these Slurpees were served in nearly every 7-Eleven store.

Chipotle Celebrates Earth Day by Giving Away Free Burritos

This Earth Day there’s no better place to celebrate all the wonders of our planet then at your neighborhood Chipotle. Chipotle has just announced that they will be giving away FREE burritos this Earth Day (Sunday, April 22nd), though there is a catch…

In order to receive your free burrito, you must first purchase one of Chipotle’s new limited addition reusable bags. The bags largely resemble lunchboxes, and you probably wouldn’t be able to use them for much else besides lunch. They also have Chipotle written on them, which might detract some people who aren’t interested in broadcasting what they eat, and they cost $18 apiece. On the bright side though, they’re made entirely of old Chipotle billboards, making each bag completely unique, and they are completely recycled, meaning that purchasing one is something to feel good about.

Considering the price of a burrito nowadays, purchasing a recyclable bag may not be such a bad investment, not only do you save on your burrito with a barcode you receive when you purchase your bag, but you can also use the bag to store your lunch, plan a picnic, or just look stylish an day of the week. If you’re into helping the environment, and don’t mind paying $18 for a $10 burrito, than you purchase your reusable Chipotle bag here.

*CORRECTION: You may only receive one free burrito with purchase of a reusable bag. Those who purchase a lunch bag from the online Chipotle store will receive a card containing a barcode, which customers must present on Sunday, April 22 (Earth Day) to redeem their free Chipotle menu item.
