The Sweetest New Thing: Mini Whoopie Pies from Batter and Cream

By Hannah Poss

People love whoopie pies and people also love the convenience of a bite size dessert. Elizabeth Fife, the young, innovative founder of Batter and Cream, set out to combine these two loves.  She created a dessert that was new to the market and that everyone would enjoy: a mini whoopie pie. Fife, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and a former investment banker on Wall Street, found herself wishing to explore a different field that allowed her to delve into her creative side through baking. She swapped her pant suits for aprons and launched Batter and Cream. Her online bakery features these miniature desserts that will spark your attention. While Batter and Cream also makes their delicious flavors in regular sized whoopie pies, most people opt to try the smaller, bite-sized versions.

The desserts come in a wide variety of uncommon flavors such as Café Au Lait and Strawberry Basil, but they also feature a whoopie “flavor of the month“. This month’s delectable flavor is Banana Nutella. Who doesn’t love a dessert that they can just pop in their mouth in one go? Their mini size allows you to try multiple different whoopie flavors without feeling too guilty. She sells the whoopie pies online starting in packs of 10. You can even customize your own order making Batter and Cream a perfect personalized birthday, ‘get better’ or congratulatory treat. These desserts are also perfect to cater to office lunches or birthday celebrations!

Batter and Cream began solely as an online bakery but Fife has since started selling her whoopies at Smorgasburg and most recently at Trina Turk‘s Manhattan showroom. These mini desserts are a must-try so make sure to catch Fife at one of these locations to explore her latest flavors as well as her classic original flavors. Ramen Burger Anyone?

By Chris Chen

ramen.co

__________________________________________________________________

It’s the summer of 2013, and Keizo Shimamoto, a lover of both burgers and ramen, had a brilliant idea — why not combine the two? Enter, the Ramen Burger.  This delicious creation made its debut in Smorgasburg in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and there, the delicious burger was limited to only the first 100 people in line!

It was probably, if not the biggest food fad that summer. original.burgerShortly after the burger launched, tutorials of how to make the burger became a hit. I myself have even attempted to make one, and boy was it a messy piece of work! But, not to brag, it tasted pretty good.

Earlier this year, their storefront, Ramen & Co., opened in the Financial District! Now, there’s no need to wait on long long lines anymore.

Of course, in addition to their juicy original ramen burger (which consists of ramen noodle with Angus beef patty,  arugula, secret shoyu sauce and scallions), they also have variations of it — Yakitori (Chicken), tofu, and shredded beef.

They also serve up other types of food — bento boxes and ramen!

beef.curry.bento

The Bento Boxes usually consists of a main protein with the sides of rice, potato salad, green salad, and housemade pickles! The protein options are Japanese meatballs, beef curry (Japanese Style with potatoes & carrots), pork ginger (Sliced pork with caramelized onions, soy sauce and grated ginger), chicken karaage (Japanese Style Fried Chicken), and tofu steak.

There are three types of ramen – Wakayama Shoyu, Hakata Shio, and the Brooklyn Blend. Each of the ramen is inspired by a different city with its own unique taste. All three ramens start off with the tonkotsu, which is a Kurobuta pork broth and your choice of either pork belly, chicken, or beef and egg.

The Wakayama Shoyu consists of tonkotsu (Kurobuta pork broth), soy sauce, scallion, kikurage (Japanese Mushroom), and a fried onion. The Hakata Shio consists of tonkotsu, salt, scallion, kikurage, and fried onion. ramen.chickenThe Brooklyn Blend consists of tonktosu, black garlic oil, soy sauce, salt, scallion, kikurage, and fried onion. Despite the ramens very similar list of ingredients, the flavors do differ as well as the noodle type. The noodle varies between the thickness and whether it’s curly or straight depends on which ramen you choose.

There are so many options to choose from, whatever choice you make, you won’t be disappointed. The food at Ramen & Co. will always have you coming back for more. What’s even better is that you can get ramen burgers catered to your office for lunch or dinner!

Contact us at catering@foodtoeat.com to get yourself some ramen burgers for lunch today!

FoodtoEat: Where We Began and Where We’re Going

By Emily Collins

As you may have noticed, we are undergoing a few changes here at FoodtoEat! Our new website is another step to help our mission of making online food ordering as easy as possible. In 2012 our CEO, Deepti Sharma Kapur, felt her stomach growling, went to get food and realized how long the line was at her favorite food truck. They say it only takes one spark to start a fire (or in this case, a growl to start a roar) and Deepti took advantage of this hunger and started something great.

As we embark on a new chapter in our business, we want to bring it all back to where it began and what we continue to strive for. FoodtoEat, at its very core, is about social responsibility. We want our vendors to thrive in a business that can be dangerously competitive. Our mission is to help local restaurants, food trucks and caterers get more business by putting their products online and ready to order at the tips of your fingers. While our competitors are charging 15-18% per order, we only charge 10 cents – you can order knowing you’re putting money back into the vendors’ pockets. New York City is a bit of a food mecca; keeping the food culture alive is important and taking large amounts of money from hardworking vendors is not a way to do that.

Not only do we give our vendors an easy online ordering platform, we also provide them with corporate catering connections. By signing up with FoodtoEat, vendors and clients have the chance to be a part of our growing concierge catering service. Unlike your typical online food ordering service, we help our vendors flourish by exposing their food to offices around the city. We also help our clients by bringing incredible food to their offices. Whether it’s an ice cream bar, build your own burger or a food truck directly to your office, we’re always finding ways to help our vendors cater to our awesome clients like Tumblr and Hulu.

Ordering with friends made easy on our new website.

Because of our connections and low fees, we are able to make online ordering not just easier on the vendor, but for the customer. This month, we launched our brand new website that features social ordering.

split
Split the bill at the press of a button!

How many times have you wanted to order food with a friend and splitting the bill is an absolute disaster? We’ve solved that. You can invite your friends into an order from different computers and you can buy delicious food together.

Our new chat feature lets you interact with people while you’re ordering together.

You can order from your office computer with co-workers or on your iPad in your dorm, it’s just as simple as the click of a button.

At the end of the day, we want to make online food ordering the best it can be. Help us feed you by ordering today.
